The Nelson Handbell Ringers are a group of bell ringers based in Borrowash and Ockbrook.  The group was formed in the 1920ís by Miss Charlotte Nelson and have  been playing almost continuously since then.  Our member numbers have fallen in the last year and we are looking to encourage other people to join our group.

You really need to be able to read a line of music, but thatís all!  This is an ancient art and we donít want it to be lost.  Everyone can enjoy bell ringing.  There is no age barrier.

At the beginning of the year, we were awarded a Lottery Grant and were able to buy a new set of bells, so we have the most up-to-date equipment, which sounds wonderful.

As a group, we try to play the bells for the local community. We have taken part in concerts and have played in churches and halls. Some of our playing requests are from Old Peoples Homes at Christmas, and for Christmas Fayres and celebrations. Christmas carols sound lovely on the bells.  We have also played at Garden Fetes in the summer. We intend in the future to have some lessons from a member of the East Midland Handbell Ringers Association,  this would therefore be a good time for anyone to join us.

A warm welcome is waiting for you.  Come and have a go with no obligation to stay. But you may enjoy it, and want to have another go.

Our contact by email is handbell@community-net.co.uk, or by telephone on 01332 660941 to Faith Ransom, or 01332 678080 to Jackie Flint.
