AIRCHECK Ayrshire
BBC LOCAL RADIO: BBC Radio Scotland provides a national service on FM frequencies 92-95FM & 810 MW. The Gaelic service BBC Radio nan Gaidheal broadcasts on 103.5 - 105FM.
COMMERCIAL: LOCAL (ILR)
WEST SOUND / WEST SOUND RADIO / WEST FM: West Sound's history actually stems back to 1981 when it began serving the Isles of Cumbrae and Arran, and Ayrshire itself with a mix of easy listening music. In the early days of it's broadcasts, it operated on 96.7, 97.5FM & 1035AM.
On 21st May 1990, nine years after launching on all frequencies, it won a further licence to cover Dumfries and Galloway. It was here that a relaunch took place for both FM & AM services. FM became SOUTH WEST SOUND / WEST FM in it's appropriate areas of Dumfries, Kircudbright & Wigtownshire and Ayrshire respectively whilst AM became known as WESTSOUND AM. This was due to the acquisition of the station by current owners Scottish Radio Holdings. (SRH) pumped in additional financial resources. The FM station offers a younger more adult orientated sound playing contemporary hits along side the hits of the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, along with the latest local news, sports and traffic and travel information. During daytime hours, it's a mix of the latest chart hits with 90s memories, with evenings targeting the younger element of the target audience with emphasis on up and coming Scottish talent. Weekends including a Party set on Friday nights, a Dance set on Saturdays, targeting the under 35s on the pub and club scene. West FM broadcasts primarily on 96.7 with a relay on 97.5 both targeting Ayr from studios at 54a Holmston Road in Ayr itself. www.westfmonline.com
